A narrative of the campaigns of the British army at Washington and New Orleans

Description

George R. Gleig left divinity school in 1813 to join the British army in the fight against Napoleon Bonaparte. After Bonaparte's defeat, Gleig was sent to the United States for the final months of the War of 1812. He not only participated in the incursion into Washington but was present at the Battle of New Orleans, which technically took place after the war was over. Returning to England, he finished his studies and became a priest in the Church of England in 1820. This book was originally published anonymously.
